Singapore-based gaming powerhouse Virtuos has finalized the acquisition of Los Angeles-based real-time VFX studio, Beyond-FX, marking a strategic move to bolster its expertise in the burgeoning realm of real-time visual effects. The acquisition underscores Virtuos’ commitment to diversifying its service offerings and meeting the escalating demand for immersive gaming experiences.
Founded in 2015 by industry luminary Keith Guerrette, Beyond-FX has solidified its position as a premier provider of real-time VFX solutions, boasting a team of 39 seasoned professionals and a rich portfolio encompassing over 100 video game titles, including notable releases like Legends of Runeterra: Empires of the Ascended, Mortal Kombat 11, and God of War.
Guerrette, renowned for his artistic prowess and executive acumen, will continue to spearhead Beyond-FX as the General Manager, leveraging Virtuos’ global resources and expansive network to drive innovation and excellence in co-development within the gaming industry. Expressing enthusiasm for the partnership, Guerrette highlighted a shared vision with Virtuos to redefine industry standards, emphasizing collaborative partnerships, flexible workflows, and pushing artistic boundaries.
Virtuos, with a robust presence across Asia, North America, and Europe, boasts a track record of over 1,500 game titles and a workforce exceeding 3,700 employees worldwide. Recognized for its contributions to AAA franchises such as Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, and Call of Duty, Virtuos is poised to further strengthen its foothold in the North American market through synergies with Beyond-FX and other subsidiaries, including Counterpunch and Virtuos Montreal.
Commenting on the acquisition, Virtuos’ North American Regional Director commended Beyond-FX’s dedication to craftsmanship and innovation, affirming the company’s alignment with Virtuos’ commitment to education and technological advancement. The move underscores the industry’s increasing recognition of real-time VFX as a pivotal element in game development, as articulated by industry veteran Dushyant Kashyap in a LinkedIn article last year, predicting a trend towards further consolidation and collaboration to drive innovation in both gaming and VFX sectors.
