Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk is embarking on a new venture into the world of animation with the creation of “Skatebirds,” a vibrant animated TV series geared towards children aged 6-11. Teaming up with Montreal-based Laughing Dragon Studios, the project is inspired by Hawk’s iconic nickname “Birdman” and aims to capture the adventurous and playful spirit of skateboarding.

“Skatebirds” will follow a group of young skateboard enthusiasts who happen to be birds, showcasing themes of teamwork, friendship, and community. Drawing from Hawk’s extensive contributions to the skateboarding culture, the series seeks to celebrate the positive values inherent in the sport, including self-confidence and inclusivity.

The collaboration between Tony Hawk and Laughing Dragon Studios marks an exciting development in the realm of children’s entertainment. With Hawk’s unparalleled expertise in skateboarding and Laughing Dragon Studios’ renowned proficiency in 2D animation, “Skatebirds” is poised to captivate audiences worldwide.

In addition to traditional 11-minute episodes, “Skatebirds” will explore shorter-form content tailored for platforms like TikTok and YouTube, aiming to engage a broader audience and promote the positive aspects of skateboarding to viewers of all ages.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Hawk emphasized the ability of skateboarding to unite communities and inspire confidence in individuals. The series is anticipated to resonate with audiences globally, irrespective of their familiarity with the sport.

Laughing Dragon Studios, recognized for its work on acclaimed projects such as Apple TV+’s “Central Park” and Disney’s “Disenchanted,” brings its wealth of experience in animation to “Skatebirds.” CEO Ryan Sohmer expressed his excitement about collaborating with Hawk, citing him as an ideal choice for a partner in creating an animated series that promises both entertainment and inspiration.
