“Super Bunnies to the Rescue! Inside Nickelodeon’s Hilarious New Show ‘Super Duper Bunny League’”
Superhero animals are nothing new. From caped canines to crime-fighting turtles, we’ve seen it all—or so we thought. Enter Nickelodeon’s Super Duper Bunny League, a fresh take on the genre that swaps out the usual tough-guy act for something adorably outrageous. This show takes a squad of fluffy, crime-busting bunnies and throws them into high-energy, laugh-out-loud adventures, proving that even the softest heroes can pack a punch.

From Comics to Cartoons: A Hoppy Transformation
Super Duper Bunny League hops straight out of the comic book pages of Jamie Smart, a cartoonist known for his wildly entertaining series Bear. Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank brought the comic to life with an 11-minute, fast-paced 2D series that’s as charming as it is chaotic. The show’s development was helmed by animation veterans Robert Scull and Jonny Belt (Bubble Guppies), with Smart consulting to ensure the series stays true to its roots.
And why bunnies? According to Belt, it was love at first sight. “We saw it, we read it, and we just knew. The humor was right up our alley,” he explains. The goal? To create a show that hooks both kids and adults, making family viewing a genuinely fun experience.
A Cast That Brings the Laughs (and the Cuteness)
A great show needs great voices, and Super Duper Bunny League delivers with an all-star lineup.
Miles J. Harvey voices Stumpy, the big-hearted goofball of the group. H. Michael Croner takes on Handsome Steve, a character who is as charming as he is self-obsessed (but, you know, in an endearing way). Michaela Dietz voices Bex, the electric powerhouse of the squad, while Timothy “Latrice Royale” Wilcots lends a smooth and sassy energy to Derek. Add in Ramona Young as the brilliant Dr. Annabelle and Janelle James as the narrator, and you have a cast bursting with personality.
And what’s a superhero show without its villains? Super Duper Bunny League features a delightfully wacky rogues’ gallery, including Fred Stoller as Dr. Fuzzleglove, Flula Borg as Doc Choc, Carol Kane as Captain Stickybeard, Patton Oswalt as Lizard Lips, and the legendary Danny Trejo as Alberto. Yep, even the bad guys are ridiculously fun.
Risky Business: Going Against the Trend
While many preschool shows are jumping into 3D animation, Super Duper Bunny League proudly sticks with 2D. Belt and Scull know that trends change fast, but great storytelling is timeless. “By the time you chase a trend, it’s already old news,” says Belt. Instead, they focused on crafting a show that’s visually and comedically unique.
Writing on the series began during the pandemic, and production spanned across the globe. With Nickelodeon in New York, animation company Gigglebug in Finland, and voice talent spread across Los Angeles, the team operated almost 24/7 to bring the bunnies to life. Gigglebug’s CEO Anttu Harlin called it a thrilling experience, with his Helsinki-based studio involved from design and storyboarding to final animation.
Comedy That Clicks with Kids
Creating content for preschoolers is no easy feat. They’re a tough crowd—if a show doesn’t grab their attention, they’re onto the next thing in seconds. Belt and Scull brought their Bubble Guppies experience to the table, ensuring that Super Duper Bunny League delivers high-energy humor that kids instantly relate to. “Preschoolers love exaggeration,” says Belt. “When our characters get upset, it’s over-the-top and cartoony—like clinging to someone’s leg for the last cookie.”
Even the villains are designed to be entertaining rather than scary, embracing a goofy, bumbling charm that makes them more fun than fearsome. The goal? Pure, uncomplicated fun that keeps kids giggling from start to finish.
