“DC’s Bold New Supergirl Series Will Change Everything – And You Won’t Believe Who’s Behind It!”

No, it’s not a bird. Not a plane either. It’s a brand-new Supergirl comic series, and this one is making history! DC Comics has officially announced an upcoming Supergirl run written and illustrated by none other than Sophie Campbell, with the talented Tamra Bonvillain bringing her signature coloring magic. This isn’t just another addition to the Summer of Superman lineup—this is a groundbreaking moment for trans representation in mainstream superhero comics.

Meet the Super Team Behind Supergirl

Campbell, best known for her iconic work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the cult-favorite graphic novel Wet Moon, is no stranger to crafting gripping narratives with dynamic artwork. Meanwhile, Bonvillain’s credentials are equally stellar, having worked on titles like Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, and Sins of the Black Flamingo. If her past work is anything to go by, expect the colors in this series to pop in ways that will make Midvale shine like never before.

And speaking of Midvale—Supergirl’s home turf—things are about to get weird. The series kicks off with Kara Zor-El returning to her childhood town, only to find that someone else is already wearing the “S” and protecting the city. But who is this imposter? And why are they trying to erase Kara’s legacy? It’s a mystery packed with high-flying action, identity struggles, and, of course, super-pets Krypto and Streaky. (Because what’s a superhero story without a good dog and an equally heroic cat?)

A Fresh Look for the Girl of Steel

One of the biggest buzzworthy elements of this upcoming series is Supergirl’s brand-new costume. Designed by the incredibly talented Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, the new suit brings a fresh aesthetic while honoring Supergirl’s past. Expect a design that feels both modern and nostalgic, incorporating influences from the 1970s comics, the cult-classic Supergirl 1984 movie, and even the much-loved CW series starring Melissa Benoist.

Campbell herself has expressed how this series is a return to her storytelling roots. In DC’s official announcement, she shared, “I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots.” That personal connection is bound to bring an intimate and compelling touch to Kara’s journey.

What This Means for DC’s “All In” Initiative

DC Comics is shaking up its universe—without full-on reboots or retcons—under its new “All In” publishing event. This Supergirl series plays a crucial role in that, offering a fresh yet familiar take on the beloved character while making space for new readers to jump in. Whether this takes place in DC’s core timeline or the newly introduced Absolute Universe is still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be an absolute must-read.

Why This Supergirl Series Matters

Beyond being another thrilling superhero adventure, this series is an important step forward for trans representation in comics. Having trans creators like Campbell and Bonvillain leading the charge ensures that diverse voices are not just heard but are shaping major superhero narratives. Bonvillain, who has also worked on DC’s annual Pride anthologies, has been an instrumental figure in bringing more inclusivity to the comics world.

This is more than just another Supergirl story. It’s a testament to how superhero comics continue to evolve, embracing fresh perspectives while staying true to the heart of what makes them great: hope, courage, and the fight for justice.

When Can You Get Your Hands on It?

Mark your calendars! May 14, 2025 is the day Supergirl returns to soar into comic shops and digital platforms. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Kara Zor-El or new to her story, this series promises action, intrigue, and a celebration of identity like never before.

So, get ready to look up in the sky—because Supergirl is back, and she’s in very good hands. 🚀✨
