The recently concluded Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) and EntertainmentPulse, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), witnessed a remarkable surge in participation, setting new records with over 7,500 attendees from 50 countries and regions. The event also boasted over 760 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions, with notable data indicating a significant increase in ASEAN representation, showcasing a 50% rise in exhibitors and a six percent uptick in buyers compared to previous editions.

FILMART served as a dynamic platform for showcasing the latest developments in film, TV, and animation, complemented by cutting-edge technologies in film production. Among the highlights was the debut of a virtual production studio in collaboration with Hong Kong-based creative tech firm Votion Studios. Additionally, the event facilitated the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the film and entertainment sectors.

In recent years, ASEAN countries, particularly Thailand, have experienced robust growth in the film and entertainment industry. Leveraging Hong Kong’s platform for industry development, FILMART organized a dedicated Thai Day on its opening, alongside the Thai Pavilion set up by the Thai Ministry of Culture. These initiatives aimed to foster collaboration between Hong Kong and Thailand in the entertainment sector.

The presence of high-level delegations, including one led by Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee to ASEAN countries like Indonesia last year, further underscored the region’s growing importance. This effort resulted in the inaugural participation of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia at FILMART, showcasing Indonesian film and TV productions for the first time.

FILMART also witnessed significant investment commitments, with Alibaba Digital Media and Entertainment Group unveiling the “Hong Kong Cultural and Art Industry Revitalisation Program,” pledging no less than HK$5 billion over the next five years to strengthen collaboration with Hong Kong’s cultural and entertainment industry.

To support Hong Kong’s transition into an innovation-driven economy and regional IP trading hub, FILMART enhanced its online platform, facilitating the promotion of exhibitors’ creative IPs and business matching. Notably, the platform hosted over 1,000 film and entertainment works as of early March.

The event provided a platform for film companies to announce new productions and plans, while also highlighting Euro-Asia co-production opportunities and celebrating the emergence of talented young directors in Hong Kong cinema.

Cross-media events at FILMART, including the Digital Entertainment Summit and the inaugural Hong Kong Film Music Fiesta, further demonstrated the industry’s vibrancy and potential for collaboration across borders.

The online platform of FILMART will remain accessible until April 13, enabling registered users to revisit EntertainmentPulse seminars and explore additional business opportunities with global buyers and exhibitors.
