“Step Into the Magic: Behind-the-Scenes of Stop-Motion Animation at Lake Oswego’s Must-See Festival!”
If you’ve ever been mesmerized by the spellbinding worlds of ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, or Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, then brace yourself for an unforgettable experience! This June 20-22, the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts is rolling out the red carpet for Animation: Script to Screen, an immersive exhibit celebrating the meticulous craft of stop-motion animation.

Bringing Puppets to Life—One Frame at a Time
Curated by the Museum of Stop Motion Animation (MOSMA) and animation expert Tiffany Schuster, this exhibit peels back the curtain on the painstaking yet magical art of stop-motion. Some of the biggest names in the industry—including LAIKA, HouseSpecial, ShadowMachine, and Tippett Studio—are joining forces to give visitors a rare peek into the script-to-screen journey of animated storytelling.
Stop-motion isn’t just a relic of the past—it’s a thriving, ever-evolving art form that continues to enchant audiences across generations. From hand-crafted puppets to intricately detailed sets, attendees will get a first-hand look at scripts, storyboards, maquettes, and puppet fabrication while discovering the four key stages of filmmaking that bring these tiny stars to life.
More Than an Exhibit—A Full-Blown Animation Experience
What makes this event even more special? You won’t just be staring at artifacts behind glass. You’ll meet the artists, hear their career stories, and witness the technological advancements that are pushing stop-motion animation to new heights. Whether you’re an animation buff, a budding filmmaker, or just someone who appreciates the beauty of handcrafted art, this exhibit is bound to leave you inspired.
A Festival Steeped in Artistic Tradition
The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, presented by the Lakewood Center for the Arts, has been a cultural cornerstone since 1963. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, it remains dedicated to fostering arts education, performance, and exhibition opportunities for all. Over the course of three days, the festival attracts up to 30,000 visitors, making it one of the largest community-driven arts celebrations in the region.
But the Animation: Script to Screen exhibit is just one part of the magic! The festival also features five additional exhibits, each highlighting unique aspects of the visual and performing arts. And here’s the best part: admission is free (with a suggested donation). So, whether you’re a longtime festivalgoer or a first-time visitor, there’s no reason to miss out!
