California-based tech giant Apple is set to expand its presence in the augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) markets with plans to launch new devices in the coming years. According to recent leaks, Apple is gearing up to release a more affordable version of its high-end Vision Pro headset, potentially as early as next year. Additionally, the company is working on a pair of smart glasses, which may hit the market several years down the line.

Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg (via 9to5Mac), revealed that despite the challenges faced with the original Vision Pro, Apple remains committed to advancing its headset technology. The tech giant is reportedly developing a scaled-back version of the Vision Pro, which is expected to be released by 2025. This lower-cost model will likely feature fewer capabilities compared to its premium counterpart.

Previous reports have indicated that the budget-friendly Vision Pro could be priced between $1,500 and $2,000, marking a significant reduction from the current model’s price point. To achieve this lower price, Apple may implement various cost-saving measures, such as eliminating certain sensors and cameras or using less expensive materials in the headset’s construction.

In addition to the Vision Pro, Apple is also reportedly working on augmented reality glasses, envisioned as a competitor to products like the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. Although these smart glasses are still in the experimental phase, with development previously delayed by technical difficulties, Apple seems to be moving forward with the project. However, the AR glasses are not expected to be available until around 2027.

These developments highlight Apple’s ongoing commitment to broadening its portfolio in the emerging AR and VR markets, aiming to offer products that cater to a wider range of consumers. While specific details remain limited, the tech community eagerly awaits further announcements from Apple regarding these innovative devices.
