Netflix made a major splash at the Gamescom video game convention with the release of the official trailer for “Squid Game: Unleashed,” a multiplayer video game based on the hit series. The game, described as a fast-paced, heart-pounding battle royale, challenges players to outlast and defeat others in a series of deadly contests. With familiar challenges from the “Squid Game” series and new games inspired by classic childhood activities, each round is a dark, nostalgic trip through high-stakes play.

“Squid Game: Unleashed” will be available through the Netflix app on both iPhone’s App Store and Google Play, coinciding with the much-anticipated release of “Squid Game” Season 2, debuting on December 26. However, a specific release date for the game has not yet been announced.

In addition to “Squid Game: Unleashed,” Netflix also revealed “Monument Valley 3” at Gamescom, marking the first new title in the beloved franchise in over a decade. Scheduled for exclusive release on December 10, the game invites players to embark on a visually stunning journey that continues to set the standard for artistic and innovative mobile gaming.

Netflix has been steadily growing its gaming division, with over 100 games released to date. Notable titles include “Oxenfree II: Lost Signals,” critically acclaimed as one of the best games of 2023, and adaptations of popular Netflix series such as “Money Heist” and “Emily in Paris.” With more than 80 games currently in development, Netflix’s gaming expansion shows no signs of slowing down.

As part of this expansion, Netflix recently appointed Alain Tascan, formerly of Epic Games, as its new head of games and began testing game accessibility on TV and computers in select countries. During the company’s Q2 earnings call in July, Netflix executives promised that one new video game would be launched every month as part of its long-term strategy to make its games playable across all devices.
