As Rainbow Brite marks its 40th anniversary milestone, fans are eagerly embracing the return of the beloved animated series, ready to immerse themselves once again in its vibrant world of color and adventure. Originally produced by DIC Enterprises with animation by TMS Entertainment in Japan, the iconic ’80s cartoon starred actress and pop star Bettina Bush, capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide.

To commemorate this special occasion, the official Rainbow Brite social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok have undergone a revitalization. The response from enthusiastic fans has been overwhelming, with engagement soaring nearly +10% above the industry average and videos amassing over 250,000 views in just one month.

In an exciting announcement, the original series is set to make its free streaming debut on YouTube, with episodes re-releasing starting at 5 p.m. EST / 2 p.m. PST on April 3. The show follows the enchanting journey of a young girl named Wisp, who embarks on a quest to restore color to the world using the magical “Sphere of Light.” Alongside her companions Twink the sprite and Starlite the talking horse, Wisp encounters challenges from gloom-bringing villains like Murky Dismal and his sidekick, Lurky.

Originally launched as a franchise by Hallmark Cards in 1984, Rainbow Brite quickly became a cultural phenomenon, accompanied by a popular toy line from Mattel and an animated feature titled Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer released by Warner Bros. in 1985. Over the years, Rainbow Brite has remained a beloved brand, transcending generations with its timeless appeal.

In addition to the classic series, Rainbow Brite has seen various adaptations, including a modern reboot featuring a redesigned character aesthetic for Hallmark’s Feeln platform in 2014, with Emily Osment voicing Rainbow Brite and Molly Ringwald portraying Dark Princess.

With a legacy spanning four decades, Rainbow Brite has generated over $600 million in wholesale revenue through its diverse product lines. To celebrate this momentous anniversary, fans can anticipate an extensive new licensing program, with over 15 licensees introducing exciting products across multiple categories. Special events and activations, such as the recent roller skating party in L.A. presented by The Loyal Subjects, have also been planned to engage fans of all ages.

As Rainbow Brite continues to captivate audiences with its timeless charm, the 40th anniversary re-launch promises to reignite the colorful magic that has enchanted generations past and present.
