In an exciting development for fans of the beloved “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise, actor Ruth Codd has been announced as the newest addition to the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation. Best known for her role in last year’s hit film “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Codd will bring her talent to the role of Phlegma, a Viking residing in the same village as the protagonist Hiccup.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Codd joins Mason Thames and Nico Parker, who are set to portray Hiccup and Astrid, respectively. Directed and written by Dean DeBlois, the film marks a transition from animation to live-action for DreamWorks Animation, known for its successful animated rendition of Cressida Cowell’s popular book series.

The star-studded cast also includes Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who are expected to reprise their roles from the animated films.

Currently in production in Ireland, “How to Train Your Dragon” is slated for release on June 13, 2025. The film promises to captivate audiences once again with its tale of friendship between Hiccup and Toothless, the Night Fury dragon, challenging the notion that dragons are mere adversaries to be hunted.

Ruth Codd’s journey to the silver screen has been a remarkable one. Transitioning from a successful career as a makeup artist to a TikTok producer, she has now established herself as a rising talent in the acting world. Following her breakout role in “The Midnight Club,” Codd garnered attention for her performance in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” where she portrayed a character pivotal to the series’ intricate family dynamics.

Aside from her role in “How to Train Your Dragon,” Codd has recently completed filming for Chris O’Dowd’s “Small Town Big Story” for SkyTV and the Irish series “The Dry,” further solidifying her status as a versatile actor on the rise.

Produced by Marc Platt Productions, helmed by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, and overseen by Lexi Barta, Vice President of Production at Universal Studios, the live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon” is poised to enchant audiences with its magical world and timeless message of friendship and acceptance.
