As the PlayStation 5 enters its third year on the market, speculations about its successor, tentatively dubbed the PlayStation 6, are gaining traction despite an expected few more years before its launch. The latest round of rumors originates from YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, known for credible leaks in the past, particularly concerning details about Sony’s speculated PS5 Pro upgrade.

In a recent video, Moore’s Law Is Dead asserted with “100%” certainty that Sony will persist in its collaboration with AMD to power both the PS6 and the rumored PS5 Pro iteration. According to the rumor mill, the upcoming chip is anticipated to deliver gaming experiences with resolutions speculated to reach 4K at 120 frames per second and 8K at 60 frames per second.

Further bolstering these rumors is a report from YouTuber RedGamingTech, indicating that Sony is exclusively considering AMD for its next-generation consoles, echoing the approach taken with the PS4 and PS5, both powered by AMD’s technology. Despite previous considerations of alternative chip vendors, including Nvidia, Sony has purportedly opted for AMD due to factors such as backward compatibility ease and the existence of a dedicated custom solutions team.

While these reports provide intriguing insights, official confirmation from the PlayStation team is paramount, urging caution until such announcements are made. The specifics regarding the PS6’s specifications and release window remain shrouded in mystery, although court documents disclosed in the FTC’s case against Microsoft shed some light.

According to documents submitted by Sony in November 2022, the company indicated no plans to launch the PS6 before 2027 at the earliest. This timeframe coincides with Microsoft’s commitment, should its acquisition of Activision Blizzard proceed, to continue releasing Call of Duty games on PlayStation platforms for the next decade.

Moore’s Law Is Dead has also claimed that Sony has initiated discussions with manufacturers for the production of the PS6. As for the anticipated PS5 Pro, prevalent rumors suggest an announcement later this year, with a potential release slated for late 2024 or early 2025.

While anticipation mounts for Sony’s future gaming ventures, enthusiasts eagerly await official announcements to confirm or debunk these rumors, ensuring clarity amidst the swirling speculation surrounding the PlayStation ecosystem.
