In the latest move to bring beloved childhood memories to the big screen, Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, along with partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara, are set to produce a live-action film based on the classic board game Monopoly. The collaboration will also include Lionsgate and Hasbro Entertainment, as reported by Variety.

Following their success with the Barbie franchise and ongoing work on a Sims adaptation, LuckyChap aims to breathe cinematic life into the iconic board game, known for its strategic gameplay and sometimes friendship-testing dynamics.

“Monopoly is a top property — pun fully intended,” remarked LuckyChap. “Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”

Lionsgate acquired development rights for Monopoly through its acquisition of eOne in December 2023, although the title technically remains under the Hasbro umbrella.

“We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster,” expressed Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson.

Hasbro Entertainment’s head of film, Zev Foreman, highlighted the storytelling potential of Monopoly, stating, “As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”

While details on the film’s plot and VFX production remain undisclosed, the announcement has sparked curiosity about how the business-centric and competitive essence of the board game will translate into a cinematic experience. Fans eagerly await further updates on this ambitious project.
