In a significant move, Ketchup Entertainment has secured the North American rights to the highly anticipated action film “Weekend in Taipei.” Produced by EuropaCorp’s Luc Besson and Virginie Besson-Silla, the film boasts a stellar cast including Luke Evans (“Murder Mystery”), Gwei Lun-Mei (“Black Coal, Thin Ice”), and Sung Kang (known for the “Fast & Furious” franchise).

Directed by George Huang (“Swimming with Sharks”) and co-written by Huang and Besson, “Weekend in Taipei” promises to deliver an electrifying blend of action, romance, and comedy. The storyline revolves around John Lawlor, a dedicated DEA agent, and Joey Kwang, a skilled “Transporter” based in Taipei. Fate reunites the two after 15 years, plunging them into a whirlwind of danger and passion.

“Weekend in Taipei” has been slated for a wide theatrical release this year, with EuropaCorp overseeing the worldwide rollout. Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the film’s thrilling narrative and talented ensemble.

EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Marc Lacarrère echoed West’s sentiments, highlighting the film’s embodiment of EuropaCorp’s distinctive style.

Founded in 2008, Ketchup Entertainment has a track record of successful releases, including “Memory” starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard. Their recent production, “Hypnotic,” directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Ben Affleck, further solidifies their standing in the industry.

The negotiations for the sale of “Weekend in Taipei” were facilitated by David Spiegelman, Gregoire Melin, Kinology, and Brieuc Jonnet of EuropaCorp. The acquisition marks another milestone for Ketchup Entertainment as they continue to expand their diverse portfolio.

Excitement is palpable as audiences eagerly await the North American debut of “Weekend in Taipei” this summer, promising an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience unlike any other.
