Telugu lyricist Kasarla Shyam has received the National Film Award for Best Lyrics at the 71st National Film Awards (2025) for his song “Ooru Palletooru” from the film Balagam. In an exclusive interview with Cinema Express, Shyam shared that winning for a song aimed to evoke rural simplicity felt deeply personal and fulfilling.
Pride in Authenticity
Shyam explained: “We wanted to create a song as pure and organic as a small village, capturing the local bond. That such authenticity was recognized at a national level is overwhelming.” He added that the song, placed early in the film, was designed to instantly ground audiences in the village setting and emotional narrative.
