Guinness World Records made a groundbreaking announcement on April 4, declaring “Jujutsu Kaisen” the world’s most sought-after anime series. The supernatural saga has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide, boasting a staggering demand rating of 71.2 times higher than the average television show.

This prestigious title was bestowed upon “Jujutsu Kaisen” after meticulous analysis conducted by Parrot Analytics, a data science firm. Parrot Analytics employs a comprehensive approach to measure demand, encompassing not only consumption metrics like streams and downloads but also social media interactions such as hashtags, likes, shares, and online research activity.

Adapted from Gege Akutami’s manga and brought to life by studio MAPPA, “Jujutsu Kaisen” chronicles the journey of high school student Yuji Itadori as he navigates the world of Jujutsu Sorcerers to vanquish the malevolent Curse inhabiting his body, known as Sukuna. The second season of the series premiered in July 2023, captivating audiences with its riveting storyline until the year’s end. Peak demand for the show, soaring to 128 times the average, was witnessed on December 29.

This remarkable feat marks “Jujutsu Kaisen” as the first anime to surpass the towering success of the action-horror sensation “Attack on Titan” since 2020. It faced stiff competition from the enduring favorite “One Piece,” particularly fueled by the recent release of its Netflix live-action adaptation, which attracted both new viewers and inspired nostalgic re-watches among long-time fans. “Attack on Titan” concluded its final season in November.

In addition to its record-breaking demand, “Jujutsu Kaisen” boasts a significant share of Gen Z viewers (ages 13-22), capturing the attention of 71.3% of this demographic. This surpasses its closest competitors, with “One Piece” garnering 56.7% and “Attack on Titan” securing 64.4% of Gen Z viewership.

The meteoric rise of “Jujutsu Kaisen” underscores its widespread popularity and enduring appeal across diverse demographics, solidifying its place in the annals of anime history.
