James Gunn, director of the upcoming Superman film in the DC Universe, recently shared insights into how the visual effects (VFX) process will be managed for his movie and the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow project. As the DC Universe franchise gears up for its official launch, with Superman set to release in July 2025 as part of the “Gods and Monsters” slate, Gunn addressed concerns about the working conditions for VFX artists in Hollywood, a topic that has become increasingly relevant in the superhero film industry.

Responding to a fan’s question on Threads about the challenges VFX workers face, Gunn highlighted his commitment to respecting the time and effort required for high-quality VFX work. He emphasized that his approach has consistently involved giving VFX artists the time and respect they need to deliver top-tier results. Gunn credited this philosophy as a key reason for the outstanding visual quality in his previous films, noting the contributions of renowned VFX studios like Weta, Framestore, and ILM.

Gunn revealed that Superman wrapped production a full year before its scheduled release, allowing ample time for VFX work. He also mentioned that the editing process began during filming, which helps ensure a smoother post-production phase. Gunn assured fans that the same careful approach is being applied to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, despite his non-directorial role in that project. He concluded by praising the VFX artists involved, expressing his deep appreciation for their role in bringing these superhero stories to life.
