In April, the 25th International Festival Music & Cinema Marseille (MCM) in France will feature the Iranian-Armenian short animation “The Song of Flying Leaves” as part of its Short Animations competition section. Directed by Armine Anda, the 2D animation offers a mystical narrative, portraying the encounter between Suna, a 12-year-old girl, and an old man with secret knowledge, as they embark on a dreamlike journey. Reflecting on themes of friendship and the power of possibility, the film explores the bond between a father and daughter, teacher and student, and adult and child.

A collaboration between Hoorakhsh Studios from Iran and Hoshkee Film of Armenia, “The Song of Flying Leaves” marks the first Armenian-Iranian animated production. Since its premiere, the 12-minute film has garnered attention on the international stage, participating in 48 festivals over the past 10 months and securing 10 awards. Notable accolades include the Golden Flame Best Animation and Producers awards at the Lantern & Light International Children’s Film Festival in Australia, a Special Mention at the Corto Lovere International Short Film Festival in Italy, and recognition from the Mexico International Short Film Festival.

Founded in 2005 in Tehran, Hoorakhsh Studios has established itself as a leading producer in the realm of independent cinematic animation in Iran, fostering creativity and innovation among young talents worldwide. Meanwhile, the International Festival Music & Cinema Marseille, known for its unique focus on musical composition for screen, serves as a platform for young creators and promotes cultural diversity through international programs. The festival, set to take place from April 1 to 6, is anticipated to draw over 500 professionals and reach an audience of more than 25,000, showcasing over 250 films.

With its commitment to supporting emerging talents and fostering creative development, the MCM continues to be a significant event in the professional industry, both nationally and internationally. As the 25th edition approaches, “The Song of Flying Leaves” prepares to captivate audiences with its enchanting narrative and visual artistry on the global stage.
