India’s gaming sector continues its dynamic trajectory in FY25, driven by content innovation, audience engagement, and the growing content-to-commerce ecosystem. While leading platforms report notable revenue jumps, regulatory pressure and platform suspensions present emerging headwinds for the industry.

Rooter Achieves 120% Revenue Growth

Rooter, one of India’s fastest-growing game streaming and content-to-commerce platforms, reported a staggering 120% year-on-year revenue growth, hitting $10 million in FY25. The surge is attributed to increased user engagement, strategic partnerships, and monetization through fan-driven microtransactions and brand collaborations. As Rooter expands into interactive fan experiences, it positions itself as a key player in India’s creator-led gaming economy.

BGMI 3.8 Update and In-Game Rewards

Meanwhile, Krafton continues to fuel engagement through content updates. The recent BGMI 3.8 update brings new modes, features, and exclusive redeem codes—rewarding players with in-game collectibles and enhancing retention. Mobile gaming remains the backbone of India’s gaming ecosystem, with regular updates to blockbuster titles like BGMI ensuring consistent player investment and brand visibility.

Gameskraft Suspends Pocket52 Amid GST Pressure

However, not all is smooth sailing. Gameskraft, one of India’s top real-money gaming companies, has suspended its online poker platform Pocket52 effective May 30, 2025. The suspension comes as the company reassesses its long-term strategy under the 28% GST regime imposed on online gaming. The move highlights how fiscal policy is shaping the operational landscape for Indian game publishers and real-money platforms.

GTA VI Delays May Impact Industry Momentum

Globally, Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title GTA VI has reportedly experienced development delays, which could ripple into global and Indian gaming markets. While other AAA titles are on schedule, such high-profile delays may affect broader industry projections and investor sentiment.
