At the Annecy International Animation Festival, the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association unveiled its “2nd Future Animation” initiative, offering HK$5 million in funding to support six Hong Kong animation studios integrating AI tools into original animated productions.

AI in Animation: Hong Kong’s Forward Push
The scheme is designed to accelerate AI adoption in Hong Kong’s animation sector. Each of the six selected companies will receive financial and technical support to implement artificial intelligence—covering scriptwriting, animation, and post-production tools—to enhance creativity and streamline workflows.

At Annecy, attendees witnessed exclusive previews and demos of these AI-enhanced projects. The showcase underscored AI’s role in boosting productivity, enabling rapid concept art generation, automated in-betweening, and intelligent color grading—all while maintaining creative integrity.
Building Hong Kong’s AVGC Ecosystem
This strategic infusion supports Hong Kong’s ambitions to expand beyond traditional production models within the AVGC (Animation, VFX, Gaming & Comics) framework. By embracing AI-tech, the region is aiming to elevate its animation output and foster global competitiveness.
“Our goal is to empower local creators with AI tools that enhance storytelling without replacing the artist’s creative vision,” stated the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association spokesperson.
