“Disney Jr. Exec Joins The Muppets! Bryan O’Connell to Lead a Bold New Era at Jim Henson Company”
Big news in the world of children’s entertainment: Bryan O’Connell, a creative powerhouse from the House of Mouse, has just hopped over to join The Jim Henson Company as Vice President of Children’s Television—and no, this isn’t just another industry shuffle. This move is a Muppet-sized moment for kids’ content everywhere.
After years of working his magic at Disney Jr., O’Connell is now set to oversee a dynamic lineup of animated and live-action projects that will shape the next generation of childhood classics. And yes, that includes fresh takes on beloved favorites like Sid the Science Kid and Dinosaur Train—cue the theme songs!

A Legacy of Laughter Meets a Fresh Creative Spark
The Jim Henson Company is no stranger to making magic. From Fraggle Rock to The Dark Crystal, the studio has been a beacon of imaginative storytelling for decades. Now, with O’Connell stepping in, the company is signaling a bold new chapter—one where legacy meets innovation and nostalgia dances hand-in-hand with fresh ideas.
O’Connell, who will report directly to CEO Lisa Henson, joins an already stacked creative affairs team. Think of it as an Avengers-level crew of children’s content masterminds: Tara Billik on feature films, Delaney Shiokari on primetime TV, and in-house legends like John Tartaglia (of Fraggle Rock fame) and Halle Stanford, co-creator of the upcoming series Wowsabout. This squad means business—or more accurately, fun.

A Career Built on Childhood Dreams
Bryan O’Connell is no rookie when it comes to the world of pint-sized programming. At Disney Jr., he played a vital role in shaping shows, specials, and shorts that have become household staples. His career has also taken him through the creative corridors of Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney Animation Studios, Silvergate Media, Illumination, DreamWorks, and even Sesame Workshop.
If you’ve laughed, cried, or sang along with your kids in the last decade, chances are O’Connell had something to do with it.

What the Big Wigs Are Saying
Lisa Henson couldn’t be happier about the addition. “It is clear he has a deep understanding of and respect for creating engaging and entertaining content for children,” she said. “Whether it be wholly new worlds yet to be discovered or the beloved legacy worlds our audiences know and love, Bryan will be managing an ambitious and exciting slate of shows for our next generation of fans.”
O’Connell himself is just as enthusiastic. “As a longtime admirer of The Jim Henson Company and its iconic properties… I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue and expand this legacy of entertaining and impactful content for kids around the world,” he said.

What’s Next at Henson HQ?
Aside from rebooting Sid the Science Kid and Dinosaur Train, the company is continuing to cook up a storm with upcoming projects like Wowsabout, The Buried Giant, and The Portable Door. And of course, who could forget Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock?
With O’Connell at the helm, we can expect a fresh wave of boundary-pushing content that speaks to today’s kids while honoring the storytelling spirit of Jim Henson himself.

The Bottom Line: Childhood Is About to Get Even Cooler
Bryan O’Connell’s move isn’t just a corporate promotion—it’s a signal that children’s television is in for an exciting renaissance. With his experience, creativity, and the backing of a company that practically invented puppetry magic, the future looks bright, bold, and Muppet-approved.
