In a shocking turn of events, the beloved yet infuriating mobile game Flappy Bird is making a comeback on iPhone and Android in 2025. Nearly a decade after its unexpected removal from app stores, fans can once again prepare for hours of addictive frustration.
Back in 2014, Flappy Bird became a cultural phenomenon. The deceptively simple game, where players guide a bird through a series of pipes, captivated the internet. Many downloaded the game out of curiosity, only to find themselves sinking hours into beating their personal bests and competing with friends. Its developer, Dong Nguyen, was reportedly earning USD 50,000 a day from in-game ads before deciding to pull the game from both the App Store and Google Play Store, citing concerns over players’ addiction.
In the years since, devices with Flappy Bird installed became collectors’ items, with some selling for exorbitant prices. Even celebrities like The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey revealed that they still had the game on their iPad. Although arcade and modified versions were released, none quite captured the magic of the original.
Now, after acquiring the trademark for Flappy Bird, Gametech has announced plans for a remake. The 2025 version will feature new characters and elements but will retain the addictive gameplay that made the original so popular. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, fans can expect a return to the flapping frenzy in 2025.
