Disney and Epic Games, the creators of the wildly popular game “Fortnite,” announced an extensive plan to integrate Disney brands and characters into the Fortnite universe during their presentation at the D23 fan convention in Anaheim, California.

The announcement took place at the Disney Experiences Showcase, where Disney’s parks and products chief Josh D’Amaro, along with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, Pixar’s Peter Docter, Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni, and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Jennifer Lee, shared early details of the Disney-Epic Games partnership. This collaboration aims to create new gaming experiences and entertainment universes tied to Fortnite, blending beloved Disney stories with Epic’s cutting-edge gaming platform.

D’Amaro emphasized the global scope of these projects, stating, “At Disney Experiences, Imagineers are actively developing these stories into real places. We have teams working worldwide, and I want to be clear: everything you’re going to hear tonight is already in progress.”

One of the highlights of the collaboration is the introduction of Marvel characters into Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode. On August 16, Doctor Doom from the Fantastic Four will be featured in the storyline for Chapter 5, Season 4, titled “Absolute Doom.” Fans will be able to uncover clues and hints that connect to upcoming Marvel films, deepening the integration between the game and Marvel’s cinematic storytelling.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also revealed that Chapter 5 will conclude Battle Royale, and he premiered a cinematic and gameplay trailer for the upcoming Marvel-themed season. This new season will allow players to explore fresh locations and continue the ongoing Marvel and Fortnite narrative.

In a groundbreaking move, the gaming portion of the D23 presentation was livestreamed within Fortnite, marking Disney’s first time streaming a ticketed fan event. The livestream was described as an “interactive social watch party,” where players could engage with the showcase through cheers, mini-games, and stunning visual effects. This unique experience remains available for viewing within Fortnite until August 16.
