Cineverse (company behind Terrifier 3) and Banyan Ventures (backed by Lloyd Braun) have formed a 50/50 joint venture based in Los Angeles—named MicroCo—to create and distribute micro-dramas, a rapidly growing global content genre.\

Leadership Team & Strategy:

  • Jana Winograde, former Showtime president, serves as CEO and co-founder
  • Susan Rovner, ex-NBCUniversal Television and Streaming chair, joins in October as Chief Content Officer
  • Lloyd Braun (Banyan Ventures, ex-ABC) chairs the board
  • Cineverse execs Chris McGurk and Erick Opeka are on the leadership team

MicroDrama Market Opportunity:

  • MicroCo targets the growing $7 billion micro-drama market in China, expected to reach $10 billion globally by 2027.
  • Focuses on serialized, short-form, mobile-first storytelling, combining production quality with compact viewing formats.

Platform & Production Model:

  • They’ll produce original short-form “micro-series” and build a proprietary AI-native streaming platform (launching under a consumer-facing brand).
  • Plans include multiple revenue models: ad-supported, in-app monetization, and premium fan offerings.

Content & Infrastructure Assets:

  • Backed by Cineverse’s library—70,000+ assets across film, series, and podcasts—and 150 million global genre fans.
  • Leveraging Cineverse’s India-based 100-person team, streaming infrastructure, and marketing network.

Strategic Positioning:
Lloyd Braun emphasizes combining quality series storytelling with short-form binge energy, aiming to enrich IP creation and fan engagement. CEO Winograde adds that MicroCo will expand storytelling opportunities through a direct-to-fan model tailored for mobile consumption.

Why It Matters for AVGC & XR Ecosystem
