Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the visionary behind the critically acclaimed animated series BoJack Horseman, is set to make his return to Netflix with a brand-new animated comedy. The streaming giant announced Thursday that Bob-Waksberg’s latest project, titled Long Story Short, will debut in 2025. This announcement coincides with the 10th anniversary of BoJack Horseman, which first premiered on August 22, 2014.

Long Story Short will explore the dynamics of a family over time, delving into the shared history, inside jokes, and old wounds that define familial relationships. The official logline teases, “If you’ve ever had a mother, father, sibling, partner, or child, this is the show for you. And by the way, would it kill you to call them?”

Bob-Waksberg, who also created the Prime Video series Undone and was the creative force behind Netflix’s Tuca & Bertie, will serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the new series. Many of the talented individuals who contributed to the success of BoJack Horseman and Tuca & Bertie will reunite for this project. This includes Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen, who will executive produce for Tornante Television, and Lisa Hanawalt, who will serve as supervising producer and design the original art for the series.

The animation will be produced by ShadowMachine, known for their work on BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, and Pinocchio. Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley will join as co-executive producers.

Bob-Waksberg expressed his excitement in a characteristically humorous statement, saying, “It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”

BoJack Horseman holds a special place in Netflix’s history as the platform’s first original adult animated series. The show ran for six successful seasons, featuring an impressive voice cast that included Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Paul F. Tompkins, Amy Sedaris, and Alison Brie.
