“50 Groundbreaking Animation Projects Unveiled at APD 2025 – The Future of Animation Starts Here!”
Animation enthusiasts, get ready! The 19th edition of Animation Production Days (APD) is set to take place from May 6–8, 2025, in Stuttgart, Germany. This prestigious industry event has unveiled its lineup of 50 new animation projects from 17 countries, promising an exciting blend of innovation, creativity, and storytelling.

A Hub for Animation’s Brightest Minds
APD, Germany’s premier business platform for animation projects, runs alongside the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and FMX – Film & Media Exchange. It’s a unique space where producers and creatives pitch their projects in one-on-one meetings to potential partners and investors.
A Diverse Slate of Animation Projects
This year’s selection was highly competitive, with a record-breaking 103 submissions. The 50 chosen projects include:
- 28 TV series
- 10 feature films
- 4 TV specials
- 8 cross-media projects, two of which incorporate virtual reality
Age demographics are well-represented, with:
- 25% aimed at preschoolers
- 40% catering to kids aged 6-12
- 15% designed for families
- 20% targeted at young adults and adults
Storytelling with a Purpose
APD 2025 highlights a mix of genres and themes, including comedy, adventure, coming-of-age dramas, fantasy, thrillers, and even animated documentaries. Notably, over a third of the projects explore diversity and inclusion, while 20% focus on environmental sustainability—a clear indicator of animation’s growing social impact.
Spotlight on Switzerland
This year, Switzerland takes center stage at APD, showcasing four projects and a delegation of ten participants. Thanks to support from SWISS FILMS, Presence Switzerland, GSFA Swiss Animation, and the Consulate General of Switzerland, Swiss animation will also be prominently featured at ITFS 2025.
International Representation
Germany leads the selection with 12 projects, followed by strong contributions from Spain, Denmark, France (5 each), Finland, Italy, and England (3 each). Other participating nations include Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Poland, and Serbia.
Empowering Women in Animation
In a promising trend, 70% of the selected projects have a female producer and/or director. With a combined production value of 170 million euros, APD is proving to be a game-changer in advancing gender representation in the animation industry.
APD Talent Program: Nurturing Future Creators
Out of the 26 applications for the APD Talent Program, eight emerging European animation projects have been selected. These talented young creators will receive free accreditation, valuable industry mentorship, and the opportunity to connect with key players in the business.
Beyond the Meetings: Networking & Industry Insights
APD 2025 isn’t just about project pitches—it’s also a hub for industry networking and discussions. Highlights include:
- The APD Conference, now hosted at the ITFS Festival Centre
- Specialist events, including the Opening Reception and Networking Lunches
With animation’s next big hits potentially being born at this event, APD 2025 is shaping up to be an unmissable opportunity for anyone passionate about the future of animation.
