A Love Letter to Classic Comics
The series isn’t just about high-stakes action—it’s also a celebration of Marvel’s rich artistic history. Kaare Andrews, who’s both illustrating and creating the main cover, is drawing inspiration from the greats who defined the genre.
“Spider-Man and Wolverine have always attracted the best artists in comics,” Andrews told Polygon, “and I’m pulling from all of them.”
Andrews specifically cites the late ‘80s and early ‘90s comics as his biggest influence. “When I post these images, I get comments like, ‘I see Todd [McFarlane] here!’, ‘Looks a little like Erik Larsen!’, ‘Inspired by Silvestri?’, ‘Sam Kieth!’, ‘Jim Lee!’, ‘Campbell!’, ‘Liefeld!’, ‘Adams!’, ‘the Kuberts!’—and it’s YES-YES-YES-YES!!! All of them.”
He continues, “I’m soaking in those influences and squeezing that juice straight onto the page. I am totally unconcerned with movie adaptations or TV shows; this is about pure comics, the way it was meant to be. Finally, at last, again!”
Variant Covers and Collectors’ Excitement
Marvel Comics has unveiled not only Andrews’ main cover but also three stunning variant covers by legendary artists Mark Bagley, Clayton Crain, and David Marquez.
With a creative team passionate about delivering high-energy storytelling and a nostalgic love for classic comic art, Spider-Man & Wolverine is shaping up to be a must-read.
