Set to launch on Steam and Game Pass in 2025, Descenders Next promises to be “the only extreme sports game you’ll ever need.”
While the original Descenders focused on the adrenaline-pumping experience of mountain biking across a procedurally generated world, Descenders Next is set to expand its horizons significantly. The new title will incorporate a variety of extreme sports disciplines, offering players an unparalleled range of high-octane activities.
According to RageSquid, the goal of Descenders Next is to preserve the “same feel, the same sense of speed” that made its predecessor a hit, while introducing a host of new sports. The initial release will feature boarding sports, starting with snowboarding. Players will navigate the snowy peaks with tight, fluid movements before transitioning to the rugged terrain of mountainboarding. Each sport will offer a distinct feel and handling, challenging players to master every aspect of the game.
The action unfolds across procedurally generated off-piste mountains that seamlessly connect to “tight, winding parks and vistas.” These diverse environments will host a variety of challenges, including speed runs, trick-focused tasks, and scavenger hunts. Players can explore “multiple huge biomes” and enjoy full multiplayer support, enhancing the game’s replayability and social experience.
As players progress, they will earn reputation points that can be used to purchase new boards, kits, helmets, goggles, and other gear. Adding to the immersive experience is a “banging” soundtrack from Monstercat, promising an audio experience that matches the game’s high energy.
