Hossein Molayemi’s latest creation is set to captivate audiences at the prestigious Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS), scheduled to take place in the German city from April 23 to 28. Entitled “In the Shadow of Cypress,” the film delves into the poignant narrative of an aging sailor grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) against the backdrop of a heartfelt family dynamic.

The storyline follows the protagonist, a seasoned captain, as he navigates the complexities of his relationship with his daughter in their modest seaside abode. Despite harboring a deep yearning to be a devoted and caring father, the captain finds himself wrestling with inner demons that hinder his ability to connect with his daughter as he longs to. However, their lives take an unexpected turn one fateful morning, setting the stage for a compelling cinematic journey.

ITFS stands as a beacon for animated filmmaking on a global scale, drawing animation enthusiasts, artists, and industry professionals from around the world. The festival’s core focus lies in celebrating the art form in its diverse manifestations, featuring competitions for both short and feature-length animated films, alongside innovative interactive and transmedia projects.

An integral component of ITFS is its commitment to fostering direct engagement between filmmakers and audiences through audience talks, presentations, and networking opportunities. These interactions facilitate discussions on films, aesthetics, techniques, and thematic elements, enriching the overall festival experience.

A highlight of ITFS is the free Open Air cinema held at Stuttgart’s Schlossplatz, infusing the city with an international ambiance and providing a memorable experience for locals and visitors alike. Embracing inclusivity, the festival’s diverse offerings cater to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, ensuring a welcoming environment for animation enthusiasts worldwide.
