The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards witnessed an evening of triumph for cinematic excellence, as Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” and Yorgos Langthimos’ “Poor Things” emerged as standout winners. Hosted at The Royal Festival Hall in London by David Tennant, the event showcased remarkable achievements in the film industry.

In the fiercely contested Best Animated Film category, Miyazaki’s acclaimed feature, “The Boy and the Heron,” secured victory over formidable contenders including Aardman’s “Chicken Run: Dawn of The Nugget,” Disney/Pixar’s “Elemental,” and Sony Pictures Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”

Notably, “The Boy and the Heron” made history as the first Japanese production to claim the esteemed Best Animated Feature BAFTA, marking a significant milestone for the legendary filmmaker Miyazaki, who celebrated his 83rd birthday last year.

Meanwhile, Yorgos Langthimos’ “Poor Things” triumphed in the category of Best Visual Effects, surpassing notable competitors such as 20th Century Studios’ “The Creator,” Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Paramount Pictures’ “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” and Columbia Pictures’ “Napoleon.”

Adding to the array of accolades, “Crab Day” by Bart Stanislawek, Ross Stringer, and Aleksander Sykulak clinched the BAFTA for Best Animated Short, surpassing competitors such as “Wild Summon” by Karni Arieli, Saul Freed, and Jay Woolley, as well as “Visible Mending” by Samantha Moore and Tilley Bancroft.

The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards celebrated the diverse talent and creativity within the global film industry, honoring both established auteurs and emerging voices in cinema.
