Telugu lyricist Kasarla Shyam has received the National Film Award for Best Lyrics at the 71st National Film Awards (2025) for his song “Ooru Palletooru” from the film Balagam. In an exclusive interview with Cinema Express, Shyam shared that winning for a song aimed to evoke rural simplicity felt deeply personal and fulfilling.

Pride in Authenticity

Shyam explained: “We wanted to create a song as pure and organic as a small village, capturing the local bond. That such authenticity was recognized at a national level is overwhelming.” He added that the song, placed early in the film, was designed to instantly ground audiences in the village setting and emotional narrative.

Vocalists & Composer

“Ooru Palletooru” is voiced by Mangli and Ram Miriyala, with music by Bheems Ceciroleo. The song became a standout for its rustic melody and evocative lyricism, complementing the film’s portrayal of Telangana’s rural tableau.

Context: Telugu Cinema’s Award-Winning Streak

The victory is part of a broader sweep by Telugu cinema at the 71st National Film Awards: it was one of seven awards secured in various categories, including Best Film (Telugu) for Bhagavanth Kesari, and awards for Hanu‑Man and Baby in AVGC and screenplay categories.
