Anticipation is building for Blessy’s upcoming Malayalam film, ‘The Goat Life,’ as the highly awaited release date of April 10 draws near. Based on the acclaimed Malayalam novel ‘Aadujeevitham’ by renowned writer Benyamin, the film has generated widespread excitement, with translations of the literary masterpiece available in 12 different languages.

During an event at the ongoing Kerala Literature Festival 2024 in Kozhikode, Blessy and Benyamin took center stage in an enlightening discussion about ‘The Goat Life.’ The audience responded with overwhelming applause, underscoring the enthusiastic reception for the film. The two luminaries shared their insights in a special behind-the-scenes video, delving into the process of adapting books into films. Their discussion covered valuable perspectives on shooting techniques, film direction, and the intricate art of transforming literature onto the cinematic screen.

The connection between the novel ‘Aadujeevitham’ and the forthcoming film, ‘The Goat Life,’ was further emphasized during the festival. Director Blessy spoke about the challenges faced in adapting the novel to the big screen, stating, “Our greatest hurdle lay in meeting audience expectations and surpassing their imaginative interpretations, given the familiarity of the novel.” He highlighted the influence of individual references on each film, noting that his works consistently explore universal human emotions drawn from personal encounters, stories heard, or his own experiences.

‘The Goat Life’ narrates the true story of Najeeb, a young man who, in the early ’90s, migrates from the lush green shores of Kerala in search of fortune abroad. The character of Najeeb is portrayed by Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran. Director Blessy discussed the unique challenge of crafting Najib’s character, stating, “Crafting Najib’s character presented a unique challenge, as neither I nor Prithviraj had any predefined guidance for his portrayal.” Benyamin added, “It is a film which has no references to look into.”

The film boasts a stellar cast, including Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, Amala Paul, Indian actor K. R. Gokul, and renowned Arab actors Talib al Balushi and RikAby, playing pivotal roles. ‘The Goat Life’ is set to release on April 10 in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Blessy, the sixty-year-old director, has earned one National Film Award and six Kerala State Film Awards for his feature films ‘Kaazhcha’ (2004), ‘Thanmathra’ (2005), and ‘Pranayam’ (2011). Notably, his documentary film ‘100 Years of Chrysostom’ holds the Guinness World Record for the longest documentary globally, with a runtime of 48 hours and 10 minutes
