“Annecy 2025: A Spectacular Celebration of Animation, Innovation, and Global Talent”

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has officially revealed its highly anticipated 2025 lineup, promising an unforgettable week of animation magic from June 8–14 in the scenic French Alps. Alongside the MIFA market (June 10–13), this year’s edition marks major milestones and introduces new experiences while celebrating the vibrant, global animation community.

New Highlights for 2025
This year, Annecy introduces exciting additions like the Midnight Shorts program, spotlighting edgy and offbeat short films, and the Annecy Dome — a new 32-seat venue dedicated to immersive storytelling experiences, nestled in the heart of the city.
A tribute to Hungarian animation takes center stage, with curated screenings, a focus on animated music videos through the “Video Clip Geniuses” series, and celebrations for the MIFA’s 40th anniversary, reflecting four decades of fostering the global animation industry.

Feature Film Competitions
The 2025 festival showcases an exceptional roster across multiple sections:
Feature Film Competition titles include Allah Is Not Obliged by Zaven Najjar, The Last Blossom by Baku Kinoshita, Into the Mortal World by Zhong Ding, and A Magnificent Life by Sylvain Chomet.

Contrechamp Features highlight diverse storytelling with films like Lesbian Space Princess (Australia), Space Cadet (U.S.), and Nimuendaj (Brazil/Peru).

Midnight Specials will present radical, adults-only screenings such as All You Need Is Kill (Japan) and Heart of Darkness (France/Brazil).

Works in Progress
The popular Works in Progress sessions will showcase 16 upcoming projects, including highly awaited features like The Cat in the Hat (U.S.) and Daisy’s Life by Masaaki Yuasa, along with TV series such as Get Jiro and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.

Special Guests and Honorary Cristals
This year’s festival welcomes first-time guest Michel Gondry, who will receive an Honorary Cristal and premiere his new animated film Maya, Give Me Another Title. Other honorees include indie icon Joanna Quinn and The Simpsons creator Matt Groening.
Notable attendees include:

Raphael Bob-Waksberg (creator of BoJack Horseman), previewing Long Story Short (Netflix)

Pixar’s Pete Docter, offering early looks at Elio, Hoppers, and Toy Story 5

Genndy Tartakovsky, presenting his adult comedy feature Fixed

Major Studio Showcases
Animation giants will be unveiling new projects:

Disney/Pixar: First looks at Zootopia 2 and Elio, and a celebration of Toy Story’s 30th anniversary

DreamWorks: Exclusive footage from The Bad Guys 2

Sony Pictures Animation: Preview of GOAT, blending fashion and basketball

Netflix: Sneak peek at the Stranger Things animated series and In Your Dreams film

Annecy Presents and Free Public Events
The Annecy Presents section offers sneak previews of family-friendly films such as Captain Sabertooth and the Countess of Grel, I Am Frankelda, and Stitch Head. Additionally, a free open-air screening of Four Souls of Coyote and exhibitions — including a major display for Arcane (produced by Riot Games and Fortiche Production) — will adorn the city.

MIFA’s 40th Anniversary
The 2025 edition of MIFA celebrates four decades as the industry’s premier business hub, now hosting over 200 events across four days. Highlights include:

The first-ever Hungarian Pavilion and major new country participants

Dedicated themes each day: Women in Animation, Video Games, Animated Documentary, and Music

Recruitment sessions from major studios like Disney, Illumination, LAIKA, and Netflix

New focus areas including Animation and AI, The Animated Documentary, and Private Financing panels.

MIFA Campus will feature daily masterclasses, with industry legends like Áron Gauder mentoring the next generation of animators.

Annecy 2025 promises to be one of the most ambitious and thrilling editions in its history — a true celebration of animation’s limitless creativity.
